Langon – Fontet

From Langon, we sail along the left bank, a short distance from the Garonne, between fields of grain and poplar groves.

This route is recommended in wet weather, pending the completion of the greenway between Saint-Macaire and Castets-et-Castillon.

Langon : Place des Carmes (Centre Culturel des Carmes), remains of the 12th-century Notre-Dame-du-Bourg church, Rue Maubec (historic houses), St-Gervais church – 11th–20th centuries, the banks of the Garonne, Parc des Vergers

Saint-Macaire : fortified enclosure (13th–14th-century ramparts and gates), St-Sauveur Church (12th–14th century), Place du Mercadiou (houses with arcades), the fortified house known as the Château de Tardes, the “caves” (former stone quarry), and the Barette wash house.

Castets-et-Castillon: a metal bridge known as the Eiffel Bridge (1905), a double-chamber lock, a boat mooring and picnic area, the Church of St Pierre in Castillon (15th–20th centuries), and the Church of St Romain in Mazérac (11th–20th centuries).

FR : Cette étape permet de rejoindre le canal latéral à la Garonne à Castillon-de-Castets. Le parcours s’effectue d’abord sur de petites routes, bordées de prairies, bois, champs et cultures maraîchères. Entre Cazats et Savignac, le trafic est un peu plus important, puis place au chemin de halage, paisible et ombragé.

A proximité du parcours, partez à la découverte de l’abbaye cistercienne de Sainte-Marie du Rivet, du Pont d’Or à Pondaurat et des anciennes rues médiévale de la Réole.

Alternative to the stage « Langon – Fontet »

The Scandibérique route joins Castets-et-Castillon, the starting point of the Garonne Canal.

As you walk along the banks of the Garonne, you’ll come across the medieval town of Saint-Macaire. Don’t miss the Place du Mercadiou, the murals in the Church of Saint-Sauveur and the gates of the town walls.

A 3-kilometre detour through the vineyard-covered hills leads to the Malagar estate, which was dear to François Mauriac.
